The Astra also got a customized uitlaat and was lowered by 30 millimeter. The wheels vary in size from 16 to 19 inch.

The Tourer's impressive speed is thanks to the upgrades made by Steinmetz, including a modified intercooler and a larger turbo.

Steinmetz also installed high flow fuel injectors and reprogrammed the engine's electronics.

The end result is an Insignia wagon that makes 400 HP and 405 lb-ft of torque.

Opel has a long history of setting speed records, dating back to the 1920s.

Fritz Von Opel piloted his rocket powered RAK 2 to an estimated 149 MPH at Berlin's Avus racetrack.

Rennsport and Performance

The Rennsport and Performance scene was alive and well in the 1970s, thanks in part to the tuning work of Steinmetz and Irmscher on the Opel Commodore.

Opel's Commodore A, with its 2784-cm³ engine and 107 kW of power, was the perfect base for a racing machine. In fact, it was capable of producing 250 PS or more with the right tuning.
