The Weinburg Proposal
The Weinburg Proposal was a strategy developed by the Weinberg Group in 2003 to help DuPont address the controversy surrounding perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a compound used to make Teflon.
The proposal was authored by Paul D. Thacker and reported in Environmental Science & Technology. The Weinberg Group's Vice-President of Product Defense, P. Terrence Gaffney, was the key figure behind the proposal.
Gaffney suggested that DuPont should shape the debate at all levels, which included facilitating the publication of papers and articles that disputed the alleged health risks of PFOA. He also proposed the creation of "blue ribbon panels" of thought leaders on issues related to PFOA.
DuPont confirmed that they hired the Weinberg Group to help with "scientific third party experts." The Weinberg Group has a history of helping companies manage issues related to environmental exposures, dating back to 1983 with the case of Agent Orange.
The Weinberg Group's proposal for DuPont included coordinating the publishing of white papers on PFOA, junk science, and the limits of medical monitoring.
Our Work
We work with a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, chemical, and tobacco companies.
We've consulted on chemicals like trichloroethylene, Teflon, PCBs, Bisphenol A, and the organochlorine insecticide endosulfan.
The Weinberg Group has also been involved with the alcohol industry, where they've worked to counter potential consequences of a report on alcohol consumption in Europe.
Their work in this area has raised concerns among public health experts, who worry that the industry is trying to present its own interests as "evidence-based" research.

We work with a diverse range of industries, including pharmaceutical, medical device, and chemical companies.
Our clients represent a broad range of industries, including pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical, consumer product, cosmetic, environmental, and food.
We've consulted for companies involved in the production of chemicals like trichloroethylene (TCE), Teflon, PCBs, Bisphenol A, and the organochlorine insecticide endosulfan.
The Weinberg Group has also worked with companies in the tobacco industry.

Propharma Group Acquires
ProPharma Group has made a significant move in the industry with the acquisition of The Weinberg Group Inc. ProPharma Group is a portfolio company of Linden Capital Partners.
The Weinberg Group is a leading company based in Washington D.C. This acquisition is a strategic step for ProPharma Group, allowing it to expand its reach and capabilities.
The Alcohol Industry
The Alcohol Industry has been known to present its own views as 'evidence-based', despite criticism from experts. This is evident in the case of the Brewers of Europe hiring the Weinberg Group to counter the report Alcohol in Europe by Dr Peter Anderson.
The Weinberg Group's report was reviewed by an independent scientific panel, or so they claimed. However, the report's co-ordinators have ties to helping companies clear regulatory hurdles and defend products in courts and media.
Martin McKee, a professor of public health, shares Anderson's concerns about the Weinberg Group's involvement in writing a paper on alcohol regulation for the European alcohol industry.
