Foreign Distribution

Section23 Films is a major player in the anime distribution scene, but have you ever wondered how they reach audiences outside of North America? They don't directly release their properties in non-North American English-speaking markets.

Instead, they sublicense their titles to other companies. In the United Kingdom, they partner with Manga Entertainment, Anime Limited, and Animatsu Entertainment. These companies bring Section23 Films' properties to UK audiences.

In Australia and New Zealand, they sublicense to Siren Visual, Madman Entertainment, and Hanabee. This allows Section23 Films to reach a broader audience without having to handle international distribution themselves.

Interestingly, some of these sublicensing deals have led to unexpected releases. For example, MVM Films in the UK released Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful in 2010, after Sentai Filmworks re-released the series.

Section23 Films is part of a larger group of companies that specialize in Japanese media distribution.

Sentai Filmworks is another company that works closely with Section23 Films, distributing anime and other Japanese media to audiences worldwide.

Crunchyroll is a notable streaming service that has partnered with Section23 Films to bring their content to a wider audience.

Switchblade Pictures

Switchblade Pictures is a licensing concession company that grants licenses for live-action Japanese action movies, mostly horror, uncensored, and erotic films. They were formed in 2008 alongside Sentai Filmworks.

Their initial distribution was handled by ADV Films, but in September 2009, Section23 took over distribution duties.

Their predecesor, AD Vision, managed to get sublicenses to other companies like Manga Entertainment in the UK and Siren Visual.

MVM Films released Mahoromatic: Algo más que maravilloso in the UK in 2010, after Sentai re-released the series.
