The Sec 8 Gov Housing Voucher Program is a vital resource for low-income families in need of affordable housing. The program has a long history, dating back to 1974.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet certain income requirements, with guidelines set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The income limits vary by location and family size.
Here are some key details to keep in mind: the voucher program is not a direct payment to the family, but rather a subsidy that helps pay for rent in private housing.

Eligibility and Application
To determine your eligibility for a housing choice voucher, your total annual gross income will be taken into account, and you'll need to check HUD's Section 8 income limits data.
Your family's size is also a factor in determining eligibility. The more people in your household, the more likely you are to qualify.
You must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen with an eligible immigration status to apply for Section 8 housing.
To find out if you're eligible, you'll need to find your local public housing agency and learn about their specific requirements and application process.
Here are the three key factors to consider:
- Your total annual gross income
- Your family's size
- Your immigration status

Choice Voucher
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program is a federally funded program that provides assistance to eligible low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to rent housing in the private market.
You can choose any housing that meets the program requirements, such as a single-family home, townhouse, or apartment, and use Section 8 vouchers to pay for all or part of your rent.
The program funds are awarded to the program by HUD through Annual Contribution Contracts and are used to subsidize the difference between the cost of rent and a maximum of 30 percent of the household's adjusted gross income.

Families with a low income, seniors, and people with disabilities may qualify to use Section 8 vouchers to find housing, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation in the private market.
Here are some counties currently serviced by the program: Columbus, Granville, Halifax, Person, Sampson, and Warren.
You can schedule an appointment with the program team online, but you'll need to have your tenant ID to do so - it's available in your portal when you login.
The program allows you to pay for all or part of your rent, and the PHA pays its part of the rent to the owner (landlord), and you as the tenant pay the difference.

The program provides rental assistance to eligible families in the form of a housing voucher.
The voucher can be used to pay for rent in a private apartment or house, as long as it meets certain safety and health standards.
Families can choose their own housing, as long as the landlord is willing to participate in the program.
The amount of assistance provided varies depending on the family's income and the cost of the housing.
