NTT Docomo USA has launched an IoT-driven temperature- and humidity-monitoring service for industrial refrigerators and freezers in the United States.
This service allows customers to monitor temperature and humidity levels in real-time using their smartphones or PCs. They can also receive alerts in case of any abnormality and monthly reports on temperature and humidity trends.
The service is available for a subscription fee of $99 per month and uses LoRa technology for low-power, extra-long-range transmissions. This technology enables sensors to run for more than five years without replacement.
The service is part of Docomo's "Globiot" global IoT initiative, which provides global connectivity and operational support to Japanese enterprises with global IoT operations.

Tap T-Mobile 4G
NTT DoCoMo USA is set to add "4G" services to its U.S. mobile virtual network operator offering through an expanded agreement with T-Mobile US.
T-Mobile US will provide NTT DoCoMo USA with its "nationwide 4G" network by the end of the year for the MVNO service. NTT DoCoMo USA plans to offer a "wide variety of new pricing plans and options" as part of this agreement.

This expansion is a nice kick for T-Mobile US' expanding wholesale operations, which posted 319,000 net customer additions during the recent second quarter. T-Mobile US' LTE network had reached 116 markets covering 157 million potential customers at mid-year.
T-Mobile US President and CEP John Legere noted that the carrier will initially target 400,000 "Japanese students, workers and other expatriates" that already use the DoCoMo MVNO service.
