Gonzo has made a significant impact in the anime industry, particularly in the realm of adult-oriented content. The company's first anime series, "Last Exile", was released in 2003.

Gonzo's anime series often feature complex storylines and themes, which has contributed to their popularity among adult viewers. This is evident in the success of series like "Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo."

One notable example is "Bakuretsu Tenshi", a 1996 anime series that pushed the boundaries of content at the time. Gonzo's willingness to take risks has been a hallmark of their approach to anime production.

Their anime series frequently explore mature themes, such as politics and social issues, which resonates with adult audiences.

Financial Matters

Gonzo had a significant financial problem in their closing account in the 2008-2009 term, with a deficit estimated over 30 million dollars.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange announced that Gonzo would be delisted from the exchange on July 30, 2009, due to their financial liabilities exceeding their total financial assets.

Gonzo sold its subsidiaries, including Gonzo Rosso game development, GDH Capital financing, and remaining shares of Tablier Communications, as part of the restructuring.

The studio posted higher than expected profit margins in the April-September 2012 period, thanks to the release of titles like Rosario + Vampire to western online streaming services such as Netflix.

In the UK, ADV Films UK branch was the distributor for Gonzo titles licensed by ADV, except for Gantz, which was licensed by MVM Films. MVM Films also took over licensing for many Gonzo titles after ADV's closure.

MVM Films was the UK licensee for most Gonzo titles licensed by Funimation in the US, except for Afro Samurai, which was initially distributed directly in the UK by GDH and later by Manga Entertainment UK. Manga Entertainment UK also licensed Strike Witches (season 1), Origin: Spirits of the Past, and recently Last Exile and Hellsing.

Gonzo signed a long-term output deal with Animax in June 2006, allowing Animax to broadcast all of Gonzo's anime titles worldwide, including Japan, Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Latin America. From November 2007, their content was also available on Southern Africa's DSTV satellite network.

Gonzo began streaming some of their airing anime on video sites such as YouTube, Crunchyroll, and BOST as of 2008.

Anime Rankings

I've noticed that anime fans often spend a lot of money on merchandise and subscriptions, which can have a significant impact on their finances.

In fact, the average anime fan spends around $100 per month on merchandise, which can add up to over $1,200 per year.

Some fans even go as far as to spend thousands of dollars on exclusive items, such as rare figurines or limited edition collectibles.

However, it's worth noting that the financial benefits of anime fandom can also be significant, as many fans discover new interests and hobbies that can lead to increased productivity and earning potential.

For example, a fan who spends $100 per month on anime merchandise might also spend time learning Japanese, which can lead to a higher-paying job in the future.

Ultimately, the key to balancing anime fandom with financial responsibility is to set a budget and stick to it, just like with any other hobby or expense.
