General Company for Ports of Iraq Invests in Port Infrastructure

The General Company for Ports of Iraq is taking significant steps to upgrade its port infrastructure. It's investing in new projects to improve the efficiency and capacity of its ports.

AD Ports Group has entered into a preliminary agreement with the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI) to establish a joint venture to develop Al-Faw Grand Port and its economic zone.

This joint venture aims to leverage the collective expertise of both entities to attract international terminal operators, promote global trade partnerships, and cultivate commercial sea corridors, thereby bolstering Iraq’s economic development.

The agreement also sets a framework for the potential investment, management, and operation of other ports, economic zones, and related infrastructure in Iraq.

AD Ports Group has a wealth of experience in master planning and development of maritime projects and economic cities, as seen in their previous projects such as Khalifa Port and Kizad Area A.

The joint venture is designed to provide expertise for the development of Al-Faw Port and its Economic Zone, including advanced management and operational models to improve overall efficiency and operational capabilities.

The Port has 21 berths measuring around 5000m, making it quite expansive. It's connected to major oilfields in the south of Iraq.

The 39 berths in this port are equipped with modern cargo handling equipment, including forklifts and electronic lifts with capacities ranging from 3.2 to 15 tons.

Each berth has a depth of sea water ranging from 9 to 14 meters, which allows for efficient cargo operations.

The total length of these berths is 7837 meters, making them suitable for a wide range of vessels.

A receiving dock with a length of up to 4000 meters is also available, with a sea depth ranging from 4.5 to 6 meters.
