Gas Supply to Factory Resumes

Gas supply to the Ashuganj Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd in Brahmanbaria has finally resumed after a nearly nine-month suspension.
The authorities have started the urea production process, but several steps need to be completed before starting full-scale production, which will take at least another two weeks.
The factory produces about 1,100 tonnes of urea fertiliser per day, a significant amount that will be beneficial for the local agricultural industry.
Factory workers went on protest demanding the resumption of gas supply and submitted memorandums to the concerned departments, highlighting the importance of the factory's operations.
The resumption of gas supply will help the factory workers get back to work, bringing relief to the community.
Ashuganj Factory Stops Production After 38 Days
The Ashuganj Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd in Brahmanbaria has halted urea production indefinitely due to a gas supply crisis. This is just 38 days after the factory resumed operations.
The factory has a production capacity of 1,150 tons of urea per day but requires at least 48 million cubic feet of gas daily for normal operations. This means that even with a gas connection available, production couldn't run at full capacity due to low pressure.
The Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited completely stopped gas supply to the factory on Saturday evening, leading to the indefinite suspension of production. This is the second time this issue has resurfaced, following protests by workers that led to the factory restarting production on January 23.
The factory's General Manager (Operations) AB Mahmud confirmed the halt in production, stating that "Fertilizer cannot be produced without gas." The Deputy General Manager of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited, Engineer Zahidur Reza, said that the gas supply was stopped by a government decision, and it's unclear when or if the supply will resume.
