There is no one simple answer to the question of who Jesus is. To begin to answer this question, we must first ask ourselves what we mean when we say “Jesus.” In English, the word “Jesus” is a transliteration of the Greek word Ἰησοῦς, which in turn is a translation of the Hebrew ישוע‎, a common name for Joshua son of Nun in the Hebrew Bible.1 So when we ask “Who do you say that Jesus is?” we are really asking “Who do you say that Joshua son of Nun is?”

The Hebrew Bible does not give us a great deal of information about who Joshua son of Nun was. We know that he was the leader of the Israelites after the death of Moses, and that he led them in their conquest of the Promised Land. But beyond that, we know very little about him.

This lack of information about Joshua son of Nun in the Hebrew Bible has led some scholars to believe that he was a completely mythical figure, and that the story of the conquest of the Promised Land was a later invention meant to legitimize the Israelite claim to the land.2 There are several pieces of evidence that have been used to support this theory, including the fact that the name “Joshua” is very similar to the Hebrew word for “salvation” (ישע), and that the story of the conquest of the Promised Land bears a resemblance to other ancient Near Eastern myths about the conquest of a land by a divinely-appointed hero.3

However, there is also evidence that Joshua son of Nun was a historical figure. For one thing, the name “Joshua” was a common name in the ancient Near East, and it is not at all clear that it was chosen for its meaning.4 In addition, the story of the conquest of the Promised Land includes several details that are difficult to explain as mythical inventions, such as the fact that the Israelites were commanded to destroy everything in the Promised Land, including the animals (a command that would have been impossible to carry out if the story was meant to be a myth).5

So who was Joshua son of Nun? Was he a historical figure or a mythical invention? The truth is, we don’t really know. But what we

How did you come to believe in Jesus?

It was early morning, the sun just starting to peek over the horizon, when I saw Him. I was out walking, enjoying the peace of the morning, when I saw a man walking towards me. He was the most handsome man I had ever seen. As He got closer, I felt a warmth emanating from Him, and I knew that He was special. He walked up to me and smiled, and I felt my heart fill with love. He introduced Himself as Jesus, and I knew that I was in the presence of someone very special indeed.

Jesus told me that He loved me, and that He had a plan for my life. He told me that if I followed Him, I would never walk alone. I would always have His love and His protection. I would be blessed beyond measure. I would never need to worry or be afraid, because Jesus would always be with me.

That day, I gave my life to Jesus. I let Him lead me, and I have never regretted it. I have never been alone since that day, even when things have been tough. Jesus has always been there for me, just as He promised. He has never let me down, and I know that He never will. I am so grateful to have Jesus in my life, and I would never go back to living without Him.

What would your life be like without Jesus?

Without Jesus, my life would be entirely different. I would not have the hope of eternal life, nor would I have the peace and joy that come from knowing Him. I would be living in sin and darkness, without hope or purpose. I would be an enemy of God, subject to His wrath. But because of Jesus, I am forgiven, I am His child, and I have a hope and a future.

How does knowing Jesus change the way you live?

When I gave my life to Christ, I was changed from the inside out. It was no longer about me and what I wanted; it was about Him and what He wanted. My motivations, my actions, and even my thoughts were influenced by my relationship with Christ. integrally involved in my life. Knowing Jesus changed the way I live because I am now living for Him.

My priorities changed when I gave my life to Jesus. No longer was I living for myself and my own happiness; instead, I was living for Him and His glory. My desire was to please Him and to do His will. I wanted to obey His commands and live in a way that would honor Him. My behavior changed as well, and I stopped participating in activities that I knew were not in line with His will for my life.

My relationships also changed when I gave my life to Christ. I no longer wanted to associate with people who didn't share my faith. I was more interested in spending time with other Christians and growing in my relationship with them. I was also more intentional about evangelism and sharing the gospel with those who didn't know Christ.

Ultimately, knowing Jesus changed the way I live because I am now living for Him. My whole life is centered around my relationship with Christ and pleasing Him. I am no longer my own; I have been bought with a price and I belong to Him. This change is not always easy, but it is worth it because I know that I am living for the One who died for me.

What is your favorite thing about Jesus?

There are countless things to love about Jesus, but if I had to choose just one, it would be his immense capacity for love and forgiveness. No matter how much someone has sinned or how far they have strayed from him, Jesus is always willing to welcome them back with open arms. He is the perfect example of how we should strive to love others, even those who have wronged us. His forgiveness knows no bounds and his love is ever-present, which is why he is my favorite thing about Jesus.

What is your relationship with Jesus like?

My relationship with Jesus is a very special and personal one. I have come to know him as my Lord and Savior and I am grateful for his love and forgiveness. I strive to follow him in all I do and to grow closer to him each day. I pray to him for guidance and strength, and I know that he is always with me. I am confident in his love for me and am grateful for the hope and peace that he brings to my life.
