This is a difficult question to answer without knowing more about the specific project you have in mind. Generally speaking, however, it is safe to say that you will need at least 3-4 ounces of Cerakote for most AR-15 projects. This should be more than enough to completely coat the entire rifle, including all small parts and accessories. If you are planning on doing a more complex design, or if you simply want to have a little extra protection, you may want to consider using 5-6 ounces of Cerakote.

Cerakote is a very durable finish. It can last outdoors in most weather conditions, and it is also resistant to many chemicals, solvents, and oils.
Can I Cerakote my barrel?
Cerakote is a paint/finish and can only be applied to bare steel. Barrels are made of cast aluminum and cannot be cerakoted.

Does Cerakote scratch easily?

Cerakote needs to cure for 2 hours at 250°F or 1 hour at 300°F.
Can you coat over Cerakote?
Yes. For a tougher finish, it may be beneficial to coat over the Cerakote with a harder coating such as military-grade phosphate or silicon nitride.
