Chrysler's Parent Companies
Chrysler's Parent Companies were a series of entities that owned the company at different times.
Daimler AG, a German multinational corporation, acquired Chrysler in 1998 with the purchase of 80% of the company's shares for $7.4 billion.
In 2007, Daimler AG sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm, for $7.4 billion.
Cerberus Capital Management owned Chrysler until 2009 when the company filed for bankruptcy protection.
Chrysler was then sold to Fiat S.p.A., an Italian multinational corporation, in 2009 as part of a merger with Chrysler.
Fiat S.p.A. acquired 20% of Chrysler's shares, while Chrysler acquired 35% of Fiat's shares, forming a partnership that allowed the two companies to work together.
In 2014, Fiat S.p.A. acquired the remaining 41.5% of Chrysler's shares it did not already own, giving Fiat a majority stake in the company.
Fiat S.p.A. then merged with Chrysler to form FCA US LLC, a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. was later renamed to Stellantis N.V. in 2021, a new parent company of the Chrysler brand.

Daimler's Involvement
Daimler-Benz, the German automobile company, made history by purchasing Chrysler Corp for $36 billion in 1998.
The acquisition marked the biggest purchase by a foreign buyer of any U.S. company in history, with Daimler-Benz owning the majority of the new company's shares.
