What is Passbook?
Passbook is a mobile app developed by Apple that allows users to store and manage their loyalty cards, rewards cards, and other passes in one place. It was first introduced in 2012 as part of iOS 6.
Passbook was designed to make it easy for users to access their passes without having to dig through their wallets or email inboxes. Users can add passes to Passbook by scanning a barcode or QR code, or by entering the pass's information manually.

Passbook can store a wide range of passes, including movie tickets, boarding passes, and gift cards. It can also store loyalty cards and rewards cards from popular retailers like Starbucks and Walgreens.
One of the key benefits of Passbook is that it allows users to receive push notifications when their passes are about to expire or when new offers become available. This helps users stay on top of their passes and ensures they don't miss out on any rewards or discounts.
Apple's Mobile Wallet
Passbook is designed to work with both current and future Apple devices and be as technology agnostic as possible.
Apple has made available full coverage of the keynote presentation at its World Wide Developer Conference, where the iPhone maker unveiled a new mobile wallet application called Passbook.
The mobile wallet application will enable developers to build mobile barcode-based ticketing, stored value, loyalty card, and coupon apps for today's iPhones.

Passbook takes all of these passes and combines them together in one place and integrates it right into the OS.
The current balance on stored value cards, such as those issued by Starbucks, is available to view from within the Passbook app.
Passbook-enabled apps are also integrated in with both the phone itself and the lock screen, allowing Passbook to make use of the phone's geolocation capabilities to automatically bring up a relevant card or ticket when it is needed.
If you have your phone locked, and you go to your favourite Starbucks, up comes your Starbucks card, slide across it, brings up your card, scan, pay for your coffee and you're out.
Apple has partnered with several companies to showcase the capabilities of Passbook, including Starbucks, Target, United Airlines, Amtrak, and movie theatre ticket seller Fandango.
Passbook will be available with the launch of iOS 6 later this year.
