Fry's Electronics was known for its vast selection of electronic components, computer hardware, and software. Their stores were often a treasure trove for tech enthusiasts and professionals alike.

The company's demise was a result of a combination of factors, including the rise of online shopping and the decline of brick-and-mortar stores.

Electronics Closes All Stores Permanently

Fry's Electronics closed all its stores overnight, ending a nearly four-decade run in business.

The company, which had 31 stores across nine US states, shut down due to changing consumer shopping habits and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Fry's was a family business founded in 1985 by the three Fry brothers in San Jose, California, with the goal of being a "Silicon Valley retail electronics store to provide a one-stop-shopping environment for the Hi-Tech Professional."

The company was known for its larger-than-life, themed retail stores, including a 1950s sci-fi movie-styled Burbank outpost with a UFO.

Fry's had been in business nearly four decades, but the sudden and unexpected move was effective immediately across the entire Fry's portfolio of 31 locations.

The company will implement the shut down through an orderly wind down process that it believes will be in the best interests of the Company, its creditors, and other stakeholders.

At its height, Fry's had dozens of stores spread across 9 states, with the first store opened in Sunnyvale in 1985.

Fry's Roseville location was notable for having a train theme.
