Timeline
The suspect, Mangione, was taken into custody on Dec. 9 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in connection with the targeted shooting outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4.
Mangione was 26 years old at the time of his arrest.
He was first spotted on security cameras at 6:38 a.m. standing against a wall on the north side of West 54th Street across from the New York Hilton Midtown.
The masked gunman stood there for about 6 minutes before the shooting occurred.
At 6:44 a.m., Mangione fatally shot Thompson in front of the north entrance to the Hilton.
The shooter then walked towards the victim and continued to shoot, with the gun initially malfunctioning due to a jam.
