The Vipps is a secure way to make online transactions in Norway, and setting it up is relatively easy. You can download the Vipps app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

To start using Vipps, you'll need a Norwegian mobile number and a bank account with a Norwegian bank that supports Vipps. This is because Vipps uses your mobile number and bank account to verify your identity and facilitate transactions.

Once you have the app installed, you can register by entering your mobile number and creating a PIN. This PIN will be used to authenticate your transactions, so make sure to choose a strong and memorable one.

After registering, you can link your bank account to Vipps, which will allow you to make payments and transfers directly from the app.

Payment Processing

A charge is the Vipps Recurring terminology for doing a debit/charge transaction on the subscriber's account. Charges are automatically created and cancelled for subscriptions on a Vipps Recurring agreement.

You can create charges directly using the API if required, using the charges endpoint. However, please use this feature with some caution if the agreement is used by a subscription, as it may lead to rejected charges and unpaid invoices for the regular subscription.

To cancel a recurring agreement, it's highly recommended to cancel it in Vipps as well. You can do this by using the Cancel Vipps Agreement invocable action, which is an Apex Action with 2 input parameters.

You can cancel a Vipps agreement by using the Cancel Vipps Agreement invocable action in a Flow, or by using the Global class.

To register a new agreement, the potential subscriber needs to select a Subscription Plan, and a draft agreement is generated on Vipps using their mobile number.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to register a new agreement:

  1. The potential subscriber selects a Subscription Plan to purchase.
  2. A draft agreement is generated on Vipps using the subscriber's mobile number.
  3. The subscriber is redirected to a website to confirm the information.
  4. The subscriber confirms the purchase in the Vipps Mobile App.
  5. The order and agreement is finalized, and the initial payment is associated with the order.

If you're using the ordering API provided by INFO-Subscription, some of the above steps are handled for you, but you'll still need to manage the initial parameters and redirection.

To create a new Vipps agreement, you can go to the Vipps Agreements page and press the "+" button to add a new agreement.

Data and Security

For larger payments exceeding 2000 NOK, the application launches the Norwegian BankID electronic identification for user authentication, providing an additional safeguard against unauthorized access.

Security checks are also conducted in the applications during both registration and payment, helping to prevent potential issues.

If you're sending money to someone without a Vipps account, make sure to double-check the phone number to ensure it's correct, as there's no check digit for phone numbers in Vipps.

Data Mapping

Data mapping is a crucial aspect of integrating Vipps transactions with FinDock. This process involves capturing and organizing payment data to ensure seamless management of transactions.

The table below summarizes the payment data FinDock captures to manage Vipps transactions. This data includes the Vipps data, object, field, and value.

For instance, the Agreement ID is captured as a Mandate Id with a value of E.g. agr_123456. This data is essential for managing Vipps transactions through FinDock.

Security

Security measures are in place to protect your transactions. Vipps is protected by a user-defined four-digit identification code.

For larger transactions exceeding 2000 NOK, an extra layer of security is activated. The application launches the Norwegian BankID electronic identification for user authentication.

Security checks are also conducted during the registration and payment processes. This ensures that sensitive information is handled carefully.

If you're sending money to someone without a Vipps account, double-check the phone number to avoid any issues. The receiver's name is displayed before the payment is confirmed, provided they have a Vipps account.

Testing and Webhooks

Testing the Vipps configuration involves using specific example messages to verify its functionality. You can install, configure, and reconcile payments, as well as handle mobile phone numbers and recurring agreements.

To set up a Vipps agreement webhook, navigate to the Vipps agreements page, select the agreement, and click the Register webhook button. This will enable webhooks for your Vipps agreements.

To test Vipps webhooks locally, you'll need to expose the HTTP URL and register the webhook using it. This involves adding a specific key-value pair to the app.config file in the Payments microservice. The key is VippsTestWebhookUrl, and the value is a URL that will be used for testing, such as https://crs-vipps-webhook-test.loca.lt.

Testing Vipp's Webhook Locally

Credit: youtube.com, How To Use Webhooks in Localhost 2024! (Full Tutorial)

To test Vipp's webhook locally, you may need to expose the HTTP URL to the web and register the webhook using it.

For debug purposes, you can make changes in the Payments microservice app.config. Specifically, you need to add a key to the KeyValueSettings section with the value "https://crs-vipps-webhook-test.loca.lt".

Make sure that the setting of VippsEPaymentIsTestMode is set to "true", otherwise the setting of VippsTestWebhookUrl will be ignored.

The lifetime of the local tunnel is not defined, but in my experience, it is turned off every time when the debug services are stopped, so you'll need to run the local tunnel command again after restarting services.

Here are the steps to follow:

  • Add the key "VippsTestWebhookUrl" to the KeyValueSettings section in app.config with the value "https://crs-vipps-webhook-test.loca.lt".
  • Set VippsEPaymentIsTestMode to "true".
  • Your URL will be "https://crs-vipps-webhook-test.loca.lt", and you can access it via port 9000.

Setup Agreement Webhook

To set up an agreement webhook, you'll need to navigate to the Vipps agreements page. On this page, click the Register webhook button.

The Vipps agreements page can be accessed by going to the base address of your application followed by /pos/app/#/vipps-agreements. From there, select the Vipps agreement you want to set up a webhook for.

To create a new Vipps agreement, press the + button on the Vipps Agreements page.

Registration and Setup

Credit: youtube.com, ✅ How to Install & Get Vipps App (Full Guide)

To register an agreement in Vipps, you'll need to select a subscription plan and generate a draft agreement using the subscriber's mobile number. This interactive process involves several steps, including redirection to a website and confirmation in the Vipps Mobile App.

The process can be integrated into the order process using the INFO-Subscription ordering API, but some parameters and redirection need to be managed by the client. INFO-Subscription provides a turn-key sales and ordering process that can handle Vipps Agreements.

To manually register an agreement, you'll need to provide a Vipps Agreement Id, SubscriberId, and AccountId, and send a POST request to the agreement endpoint. The output will be a new Id for the agreement, which can then be used to register a general payment agreement.

Here's a quick summary of the required information for manual agreement registration:

To set up a Vipps agreement webhook, you'll need to click the "Register webhook" button on the Vipps agreements page. Similarly, to set up merchant QR codes, you'll need to click the "Merchant callback QRs" button on the Vipps sales units page and then sync with Vipps.

This popup window also allows you to create a new Merchant callback QR or convert an existing MobilePay QR to a Merchant callback QR.

You can also use this window to view the QR image.

Create Sales Unit

To create a sales unit, navigate to the Vipps Sales Units page, which can be accessed by going to {base address}/pos/app/#/vipps-sales-units.

Press the + button to open a dialog where you can select the current organizational unit.

You'll then be taken to an editing window where you can define the Vipps sales unit display name.

Select the Vipps agreement you created earlier, or choose one that's already been set up.

Lastly, enter the Merchant Serial Number on the Vipps sales unit, which is a crucial piece of information.

Goodbye Iban

Goodbye IBAN! That's what's happening with Vipps MobilePay, a service that's making it easier to send money across the Nordics.

The long IBAN numbers and tedious button-pushing are a thing of the past. Vipps MobilePay has finally found a solution to simplify sending money across the Nordics.

A transfer will cost 4 percent of the transaction's amount, which will be clearly stated in the app when you send money.

It costs nothing to receive the money, which is great news for those who love to share meals with Nordic friends or send money gifts to their Nordic relatives.

A fresh viewpoint: How Does Mobilepay Work

Mobile and Testing

Mobile devices are a crucial part of the VIPPS ecosystem, allowing users to send and receive secure payments on the go.

The VIPPS mobile app is available for both iOS and Android devices, making it accessible to a wide range of users.

Users can easily access their VIPPS account and make payments using the app's intuitive interface.

In fact, the app is designed to be user-friendly, even for those who are not tech-savvy.

One of the key benefits of the VIPPS mobile app is its ability to send secure payments, which is made possible by the use of encryption technology.

This technology ensures that sensitive information is protected from unauthorized access.

The VIPPS mobile app also allows users to track their transactions and view their payment history.

This feature is particularly useful for users who need to keep track of their expenses or monitor their account activity.

The app's testing process is rigorous, with multiple checks and balances in place to ensure that it meets the highest security standards.

This includes regular security audits and penetration testing to identify and address any vulnerabilities.

History and Setup

Vipps has a rich history, and it's worth taking a look back at how it all began.

In November 2022, a merger between Vipps and MobilePay was finalized, bringing two major payment services under one umbrella.

Credit: youtube.com, How to Update Vipps App

However, this wasn't always the plan. In June 2021, it was announced that Vipps would be joining forces with MobilePay and Pivo to create a single company and technical solution, while still keeping their brand names.

Unfortunately, Pivo withdrew from the merger in September 2022 due to competition concerns raised by the European Commission.

Before the merger, Vipps had already made significant strides in Norway. By November 5, 2015, it had reached 1 million users, making it the largest payment app in the country.

To set up merchant QR codes, you'll need to follow these steps:

  • On the [Vipps sales units] page, click on the [Merchant callback Qrs] button.
  • Then, press the [Sync with Vipps] button in the popup window to retrieve previously created webhooks from Vipps.
  • In this popup, you can also create a new Merchant callback QR or convert existing MobilePay QR to Merchant callback QR.
  • You can also view the QR image.

In October 2017, Danske Bank and Nordea gained partial ownership of Vipps, which also led to the closure of MobilePay in Norway.

Interestingly, in February 2017, the ownership of Vipps was transferred from DNB to a separate company owned by multiple banks, with DNB as the leading owner.

Vipps has a long history of innovation, with updates like V1.2 in December 2015 making it available on Apple Watch, although this feature was later closed down.
