Tesla Ford Vehicle Recalls Due to Poor Repairs and Safety Issues

Tesla and Ford have both issued recalls for their vehicles due to poor repairs and safety issues.

In the case of Tesla, the company recalled over 2,000 Model S and Model X vehicles because of faulty repairs made by its own technicians.

This recall was caused by a software glitch that allowed technicians to bypass safety checks, which resulted in some vehicles being released with potentially hazardous conditions.

Ford, on the other hand, recalled over 1.4 million vehicles due to a faulty fuel sensor that could cause the engine to stall.

Tesla issued two recalls covering more than 11,000 Cybertrucks each because of malfunctioning windshield wipers that may not work and an improperly attached trunk bed trim, which could become loose and create a road hazard.

Both recalls will be remedied by dealers for free. Tesla did not indicate whether either defect resulted in injury.

Ford recalled 2014 F-150 pickup trucks that could unexpectedly downshift into first gear, causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The automaker received reports of two injuries and one crash that may have been caused by the defect.

Both Tesla and Ford are taking steps to address these issues and ensure the safety of their customers.

Recalls happen for a variety of reasons, including faulty manufacturing, software glitches, and design flaws. In the case of the Ford recall, some vehicles have issues with the body and power train control modules failing to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

The steering column shifter may have been improperly welded, causing it to detach from the steering column in certain 2025 Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 pickups. This can lead to a loss of control while driving.

In other cases, the diagnostic trouble code for low transmission fluid pressure may falsely activate, causing the transmission to unexpectedly shift into neutral in 2021 F-150 vehicles. This was previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 22V-188.

Tesla has been responsible for 29% of total cars recalled this year in the U.S., despite having only 4.2% market share in 2023, according to industry analysts from Cox Automotive.

A malfunctioning windshield wiper is one reason for a recall, as seen in Tesla's recall of over 11,000 Cybertrucks. The wipers may not work properly.

An improperly attached trunk bed trim can also cause a recall, as was the case with Tesla's recall of another 11,000 Cybertrucks. This trim could become loose and create a road hazard.

A stuck accelerator pad is another reason for a recall, as Tesla recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks in April for this issue. This can cause delayed deliveries and even accidents.

A downshifting issue in Ford's F-150 trucks has been a problem since 2017, with the NHTSA investigating the issue. This led to a recall of nearly 1.5 million F-150 trucks in 2019.

A defect in the F-150 trucks' transmission can cause the vehicle to downshift into first gear unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford vehicles are being recalled due to poor repairs. Over 15,000 vehicles are affected, including the 2021 to 2024 Bronco Sport and 2022 to 2023 Maverick.

Incorrect fixes to previous recalls have led to these new recalls. The body and power train control modules in these vehicles may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

Dealers will recalibrate the modules for free. Affected owners will receive notifications on April 24.

Another 2,250 vehicles, specifically the 2021-2022 Edge, are being recalled for a software error. This error causes the rearview camera to display a blank or distorted image when in reverse.

These vehicles will also receive free updates to the software. Affected owners will receive letters on April 24.

Ford is taking steps to correct these issues. The company is working with dealers to update the software and recalibrate the modules.

Ford has recalled certain 2025 trucks due to steering column issues. The steering column shifter may have been improperly welded and detach from the steering column.

The recall affects Super Duty F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks. A total of 11,745 vehicles are impacted.

Dealers will inspect the steering column serial numbers and replace the steering column as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent on April 24.
