Our Work

We're proud to share some of our notable projects with you. Spark Media began production on Project Maestro, an open-source platform that empowers educators and students with limited computer access to make digital humanities games, in 2019.

This platform was first created for our game The Search For Harmony, a web game about the rich, forgotten historical legacy of classical musicians of African descent. We're passionate about sharing stories that might otherwise go untold.

Digital Projects

We've been working on some really cool digital projects that aim to make history and culture more engaging and accessible.

Spark Media received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities Office of Digital Humanities to create an open-source platform called humanities.games, which empowers educators and students with limited computer access to make digital humanities games.

The platform was first created for Spark Media's game The Search For Harmony, a web game about the rich, forgotten historical legacy of classical musicians of African descent.

In collaboration with UXR Tech, Spark Media produced El 48, a virtual reality experience based on the abolition of the Costa Rican army.

El 48 was opened on December 1, 2020, the anniversary of the abolition of the military, and is currently housed at Museo Nacional de Costa Rica, making it the first virtual reality experience of its kind at the museum.

Our team has been working on some really cool projects, and I'm excited to share one of them with you. We've been producing a podcast series called The People's Recorder, which explores stories first unearthed by Works Progress Administration writers and artists in the 1930s.

The podcast is a collaborative effort, supported by several organizations, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, Florida Humanities Council, Virginia Humanities, Wisconsin Humanities, California Humanities, and Humanities Nebraska. We're grateful for their support and guidance throughout the production process.

A second season of the podcast is currently in production, and we're excited to share more stories with our audience.
