Wins IEWCSS Contract

Siemens Plessey wins IEWCSS contract and delivers trial HMU. They've been awarded a contract worth over £2 million to supply an active interference cancellation system for the US Army's intelligence and electronic warfare common sensor system (IEWCSS).

The system is designed to overcome mutual interference problems within IEWCSS and associated communications equipment. It samples the phase and amplitude of transmitted signals and injects adaptively weighted anti-phase signals into the equipment's reception channels.

Siemens Plessey's AIC system has high speed and can handle very high power transmitters. It's based on the company's existing coherent vector cancellation technology.

The current contract covers the supply of AICs to equip three EH-60 Quickfix helicopters, three IEWCSS-configured HMMWVs, and three Bradley EFVs. Validation of the total IEWCSS system in all three mountings is expected to take 18 months.
