Scarlett Johansson is taking on Disney in a high-profile lawsuit.
The lawsuit centers around her contract for the Marvel movie Black Widow.
Johansson claims Disney breached her contract by releasing the film on Disney+ at the same time as its theatrical release.
This move allegedly cost her millions of dollars in box office earnings.
Scarlett Johansson Sues Disney
Scarlett Johansson sued Disney two months ago, accusing it of breaching her contract when it offered the movie Black Widow on its Disney+ streaming service while it was still showing in cinemas.
Her contract with Marvel Studios, which is owned by Disney, promised a "theatrical release" which she understood to mean a 90-day window before it would be streamed.
Disney said it had "fully complied" with her contract and that her case had "no merit whatsoever".
Johansson claimed that the theatrical debut was undercut by the opportunity to stream the film online, depriving her of potential earnings.
Disney released a statement claiming there was "no merit" to Johansson's filing and that the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.
Johansson said she was deprived of potential earnings due to Disney's decision to release Black Widow on Disney+ while it was still showing in cinemas.
The lawsuit was eventually settled, with Disney and Johansson coming to a mutual agreement.
Johansson expressed her disappointment with how Disney handled her concerns, calling it "poor judgment and poor leadership at that time".
Disney Lawsuit Details
Scarlett Johansson sued Disney two months ago over the release of Black Widow on Disney+ while it was still in cinemas.
The lawsuit claimed Disney had breached her contract by offering the movie on streaming before it was supposed to be available.
Johansson had understood her contract to mean a "window" of time would pass before the movie would be streamed, traditionally lasting 90 days.
Disney responded by saying it had "fully complied" with her contract and that her case had "no merit whatsoever".
The two parties have since reached a mutual agreement, with Disney's Alan Bergman stating they appreciate Johansson's contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Johansson also expressed her pleasure in resolving the dispute and looking forward to future collaborations with Disney.
