Sanofi Aventis has developed several innovative diabetes solutions, including the Lantus insulin glargine, which is a long-acting basal insulin analog.

The company has also partnered with other organizations to advance diabetes research and care, such as the Sanofi Aventis partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Sanofi Aventis has also developed a comprehensive diabetes management program that includes educational resources and support for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.

This program aims to improve patient outcomes and quality of life for people with diabetes, and has been recognized for its excellence in diabetes care.

Sanofi Diabetes Partnerships

Sanofi is partnering with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to provide diabetes training in West Africa.

The partnership will train 850 primary care physicians, general practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists in Nigeria and Ghana over a two-year period.

Diabetes affects over 460 million people worldwide and is among the top 10 global causes of death.

In sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 19 million people are living with diabetes, 60% of which are undiagnosed.

Sanofi is also partnering with Ascendis Pharma to develop a new diabetes treatment using Ascendis' proprietary TransCon Linker and Hydrogel carrier technology.

This technology allows for a drug compound to be released in the body in a precise, time-controlled fashion, creating a long-acting effect.

The technology has shown promising results in preclinical studies in delivering insulin.

The partnership will provide Sanofi with a worldwide license to develop, manufacture, and commercialize products combining the technology with active molecules in diabetes and related disorders.

Ascendis will receive an upfront payment and will be eligible to receive development, regulatory, and specified commercial milestone payments.

Sanofi is committed to delivering innovative and integrated patient-focused solutions for people living with diabetes.

The company currently has insulin products that are also available in injection pens for people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Sanofi is also introducing devices such as innovative blood glucose monitoring systems to provide comprehensive care in diabetes management.

Ascendis signs a global licensing and patent transfer agreement with Sanofi-aventis, allowing the latter to develop and commercialize products combining Ascendis' TransCon Linker and Hydrogel carrier technology with active molecules in diabetes and related disorders.

Sanofi-aventis will receive a worldwide license, and Ascendis will receive an upfront payment, as well as milestone payments for development, regulatory, and commercial achievements.

The TransCon Linker technology creates transient bonds between larger molecules, such as proteins and peptides, including insulin, and a carrier, allowing for tailor-made release profiles and high drug load formulations.

Diabetes affects over 460 million people worldwide and is among the top 10 global causes of death.

Unless action is taken, the total number of people living with diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa is projected to reach 47 million by 2045.

The partnership will help provide regular access to diabetes medicines and care, which is currently lacking in the region.

Capacity building for healthcare professionals is crucial to reversing the course of the diabetes pandemic, according to Dr. Philip Ikeme, Sanofi General Medicines Head of Medical Nigeria-Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The online training programme has been supported by several local organizations, including the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria and the Diabetes Endocrine & Metabolic Society of Ghana.

The programme is also endorsed by the Ghana Medical Association and accredited by the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
