Watch Prices and Market

The watch market is experiencing a significant shift, with prices on the secondary market steadily trending downward.

According to a new report from Morgan Stanley, the used watch market fell overall by 2.1 percent in Q2 2024 compared to the previous quarter, and fell year over year by 1.2 percent.

Rolex, which had long appeared immune from larger watch market trends, is now showing big declines, with its watches' prices dropping 7.2 percent last quarter on the secondary market.

This is a bigger drop than those suffered by sports watch rivals Omega (6.9 percent) and Breitling (5.9 percent).

High-end brands like Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin fared the worst, with their watches' prices dropping 10.7 percent, 12.5 percent, and 15.3 percent respectively.

Some brands, like Montblanc and Hamilton, bucked the trend and actually saw prices increase on the secondary market, with gains of 2.4 percent and 2.2 percent respectively.

The report suggests that the increase in supply of available new watches at Rolex boutiques and authorized dealers is a key factor behind the trend of used Rolex prices coming down.
