Before 2008, the foundation was a corporate charitable foundation for SCM Group. On March 19, 2008, it became a private charity of Rinat Akhmetov, the main shareholder of SCM Group.

In 2014, the foundation initiated its largest program, the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center, to help residents of Donbas affected by the armed conflict. Over six years, the foundation focused all its resources on helping Donbass civilians.

The foundation's efforts paid off, with over 16 years of work helping eight million people survive. Of those, three and a half million received help in Donbas as part of the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Center program.

The foundation's impact is staggering, with a social value of more than $1 billion. In 2017, it ranked first among the top 5 private charitable foundations in Ukraine.

Completed Projects

Most of the Foundation's projects are permanent or long-run initiatives, based on the experience gained during the implementation of previous projects.

The Foundation has been implementing national-level projects since 2005, addressing social challenges of the Ukrainian society.

With the outbreak of the war in Donbas in 2014, the Humanitarian Center was established on the basis of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation to help civilians affected by the war.

More than a million Donbas residents received assistance from the Humanitarian Center as of May 2017.

The Humanitarian Center evacuated people from trouble spots, distributed humanitarian food packages, and helped treat and rehabilitate the injured.

In early July 2019, the Foundation began the implementation of the large-scale project "200 Ambulances for Ukraine", on the personal decision of Rinat Akhmetov.

The project aimed to provide specially configured vehicles to public healthcare facilities in all the regions of the country.

These 200 special-purpose vehicles will enable doctors to save more than one million people annually.

The Foundation's help during the Russian invasion has been particularly noteworthy, with over 600,000 units of medicines, 60,000 blood transfusion bags, and 187,000 food packages provided to Ukrainian people as of June 3, 2022. The Foundation has also rendered psychological support to internally displaced persons.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, over 1,480 people have received psychological assistance through the Foundation's emergency psychological support points in Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Uzhhorod. This is just one example of the Foundation's dedication to supporting those affected by the conflict.

The Foundation has also been working on the prevention of orphanhood since 2008, becoming a leader in national child adoption.
