Netflix has made some tough decisions about its gaming platform, canceling six previously announced games. These games were set to be part of the company's gaming expansion, but it seems they won't be making the cut.

One of the canceled games is a mobile title called "Dead Space: Mobil" which was based on the popular sci-fi horror game franchise. It was supposed to be a new take on the classic game, but now it's just a memory.

The cancellation of these games might come as a surprise to some, but it's not entirely unexpected. Netflix has been experimenting with its gaming platform for a while now, and it's clear that not everything is going to stick.

Netflix Cancels Six Games

Netflix has canceled six games that were previously announced for its platform. This decision is part of the company's efforts to adjust its gaming portfolio based on customer preferences.

The canceled games include Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, which was originally planned for a fall 2024 launch. This game will still release on other platforms, including PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

Three titles from Klei Entertainment were also canceled: Don't Starve Together, a co-op survival game, Lab Rat, an indie puzzler, and Rotwood, an action beat-em-up. These games were announced in June 2024.

Compass Point: West from Netflix's internal studio Next Games and Thirsty Suitors, a critically acclaimed story-driven RPG from Outerloop Games and Annapurna Interactive, are also among the canceled games.

Netflix's new gaming strategy focuses on narrative, party, kids, and known-IP games. The company aims to develop games that could serve as a successor to family board game night or evolve the traditional TV game show format.

The list of canceled games includes:

  • Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game
  • Don't Starve Together (Klei Entertainment)
  • Lab Rat (Klei Entertainment)
  • Rotwood (Klei Entertainment)
  • Compass Point: West (Next Games)
  • Thirsty Suitors
