LinkedIn has been accused of using private messages to train AI models, a lawsuit filed in a California federal court claims.

The lawsuit alleges that LinkedIn introduced a privacy setting in August last year, automatically opting users in to share their personal data for AI training purposes without their consent.
A LinkedIn spokesperson denied the claims, stating they have "no merit".
LinkedIn allegedly changed its privacy policy in September to disclose that user information could be shared for AI training, a month after introducing the privacy setting.
The lawsuit says doing so would not affect training that had already taken place, and that LinkedIn's actions indicate a pattern of attempting to cover its tracks.
LinkedIn Premium users are seeking $1,000 per user for alleged violations of the US federal Stored Communications Act.
The lawsuit also seeks an unspecified amount for breach of contract and California's unfair competition law.
