LAPTV was formed as a partnership between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Paramount Pictures, and Fox in Latin America in 1993 with Universal Studios joining later.

This partnership marked the beginning of LAPTV's journey, setting the stage for what was to come. The company's early years were a collaborative effort among these major players in the entertainment industry.

On May 22, 2012, Fox International Channels acquired MGM's stake in LAP TV, taking a significant step towards becoming a major player in the company.

This move gave Fox International Channels a stronger presence in LAPTV, paving the way for future growth and development. By March 2013, Fox had purchased Paramount's position in the company, becoming the sole owner of LAP TV.

With this acquisition, Fox gained complete control over LAPTV's operations and content, allowing for more streamlined decision-making and strategy implementation. Starting on November 3, 2014, all the Premium channels of the pack were rebranded as "Fox+", dropping the "Movie City" brand definitely.

This rebranding effort consolidated the Fox brand in LAPTV, reflecting the company's commitment to its identity and values. Operations of Cinecanal and Film Zone were unaffected by this change, continuing to run smoothly under the Fox umbrella.

LAPTV Channels

LAPTV Channels offer a wide range of content to cater to diverse viewer interests.

LAPTV is a popular online TV platform that provides a variety of channels to its users. LAPTV Channels are categorized into different genres, making it easy for viewers to find their favorite shows.

Some popular LAPTV Channels include LAPTV1, LAPTV2, and LAPTV3, each offering unique content such as news, entertainment, and educational programs.

Fox as Sales Representative

Fox has become the exclusive sales representative for LAPTS in the Latin American region. They will be responsible for selling LAPTS products, including the Movie City and Film Zone channels.

This partnership will allow LAPTS to reach a wider audience through Fox's extensive network of TV channels. Fox's distribution network is the largest in Latin America.

Edgar Spielmann, CEO of LAPTS, sees this as a unique opportunity to strengthen their position in the market. He believes that Fox's network combined with LAPTS's high-quality programming and brand recognition will make them the best premium entertainment option in the region.

Fox's efforts will also increase the presence of LAPTS's premium channels in Chile, Colombia, and Central America.

Basic-Tier Channels

LAPTV Channels offer a range of programming options, including Basic-Tier Channels.

Cinecanal is a Basic-Tier Channel that has been around since 1993 and is still going strong. It features a mix of new releases and slightly older films.

Cinecanal also shows films previously shown on other channels, such as Moviecity/Fox+, making it a great option for those who want to catch up on their favorite movies.

Before 2010, Cinecanal was part of the premium-labelled networks of the company, but it has since moved to the Basic-Tier category.

LAPTV Rebranding

LAPTV was replaced as a public brand by Moviecity, a decision made by the company's executives.

The company's executives decided to stop using the LAPTV name publicly and instead use Moviecity as the umbrella brand and corporate name.

Their emails have changed to @moviecity.com, and the LAPTV website will soon disappear to be replaced by a new page at www.moviecity.com/corp.

LAPTV will still be used in legal documents, but it's no longer a widely recognized name.

The company's CEO, Édgar Spielmann, prefers to be identified as the CEO of Moviecity rather than LAPTV.

It's been three years since Spielmann joined Moviecity in 2008, and the rebranding is now official.
