Career
Moynihan's first consulting job was at McKinsey & Company in Amsterdam in 1977. He left McKinsey to join Strategic Planning Associates in Washington in 1979.
He then founded his own company, Moynihan Strategy Consultants, which later merged with First Manhattan Consulting Group. Moynihan made a significant impact at PA Consulting Group, where he was appointed CEO in 1992.
At the time, PA was "effectively bankrupt", but Moynihan turned the company around in the 1990s. He transitioned the ownership of the firm to an employee-owned model.
Moynihan wrote a charter of ethics that employees were required to sign up to. He ran PA for 22 years, retiring as chairman in 2013.
In 2015, The Carlyle Group acquired a 51% share in PA, valuing the company at $1 billion.
