Jaime Durán Barba formed the political advisory firm Informe Confidencial in the late 1970s.
He was an advisor in Colombia for the Alternative Liberal Party of Pablo Escobar in the 90s, but had to leave the country after Escobar's arrest.
Durán Barba served as Secretary of Public Administration in Ecuador from 1998 to 2000, during the presidency of Jamil Mahuad.
Mahuad was later impeached and is currently a fugitive from justice in his home country.
Durán Barba was revealed to be connected to a government contract in Buenos Aires in 2018, where two of his associated companies received nearly 71 million pesos in benefits.
The contract involved 67 polls to be conducted over 6 months, worth 247 million pesos.
In 2018, it was also discovered that the governor of Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal, made large payments to one of Durán Barba's companies from the province's treasury and lottery institute.
Durán Barba left Argentina in August 2019, amidst a severe economic and social crisis.
