Indiana Hires New Coach
Indiana has hired Chandler Whitmer as its new quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator. He replaces Tino Sunseri, who was recently hired as the new offensive coordinator at UCLA.
Whitmer currently works with the Atlanta Falcons as the franchise's pass game specialist. He previously spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers as an offensive quality control coach, assisting quarterbacks including Justin Herbert.
Whitmer's college coaching experience includes roles as a graduate assistant at both Ohio State and Clemson, where he worked with Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence, respectively.

College Team Hires New Coach Before Game

Indiana's head coach Curt Cignetti didn't waste any time finding a replacement for outgoing coach Tino Sunseri. He hired Chandler Whitmer, a pass game specialist for the Atlanta Falcons, just 12 hours before their kickoff against Notre Dame.
Chandler Whitmer is a former UConn quarterback who got his coaching start at Ohio State as a graduate assistant. He later coached with Clemson and eventually landed a job with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Whitmer spent three seasons with the Chargers as an offensive quality control coach, primarily working with quarterbacks. He was hired by the Falcons in February 2024 as a pass game specialist, but now he's headed back to the collegiate ranks.
Cignetti's quick move to hire Whitmer as the new QB coach and co-offensive coordinator suggests he's got a plan to keep his team competitive despite the coaching change.

Curt Cignetti Happy to Have Coordinator Back
Curt Cignetti is glad to have coordinator Bryant Haines back on board, and he's not surprised that the blue bloods were knocking at the door for him. Cignetti gave credit to President Whitten and Scott Dolson for providing the support that allowed them to keep Haines.

The Hoosiers' nine returning on-field coaches all received new deals with raises in December, and Haines got an additional pay bump. Cignetti said it was a no-brainer that Haines would generate interest for those high-profile openings.
Haines had immediate success when he took over play-calling duties for James Madison in 2022, with the Dukes having the No. 5 ranked defense in the country and No. 21 scoring defense. He's been with Cignetti for 11 or 12 years and has done a great job as coordinator.
The one-time IU grad assistant's success is no surprise, given the Hoosiers' recent performance. They were No. 1 in the country against the run and No. 2 in total defense last season.
