Freezer Queen TV Dinners were a staple in many American households during the 1960s and 1970s. They were a convenient and affordable meal option for busy families.
The company's TV dinners were made with a variety of pre-cooked meals, including turkey, roast beef, and chicken. These meals were packaged in a compartmentalized tray and could be cooked in the oven or microwave.
The rise of Frozen Dinners was largely due to the introduction of the first frozen TV dinner, which was invented by Swanson in 1954. However, Freezer Queen was one of the first companies to mass-produce frozen dinners.
Freezer Queen's TV dinners were known for their reasonable prices and wide range of meal options.

The Freezer Queen
The Freezer Queen was an American frozen food packaging company that pioneered the TV dinner industry in 1958. It was founded by Buffalo businessmen Paul Snyder and Charles R. Spalla.
The company was a significant employer in Buffalo, New York, with over 1,000 employees at one point.
Freezer Queen's products included "Gravy with Salisbury Steaks" and "Broccoli with Cheese Sauce." These frozen dinners and entrees were sold under the Freezer Queen brand.
In 2006, the company's Buffalo plant failed a government safety inspection and was closed by Home Market Foods, its corporate parent.
The USDA inspection found live cockroaches in the gravy tank on multiple occasions, among other violations. Freezer Queen elected to shut down the facility rather than fix the unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
The plant's closure left 175 workers unemployed. Home Market Foods then transitioned the Freezer Queen brand to "Family Buffet", ending Freezer Queen's history.
The abandoned factory sat unwanted until it finally had a date with the wrecking ball in 2019. A developer bought the old Freezer Queen site in 2007, announcing plans to erect a mixed-use condo development.
However, the project was plagued with contaminated soil and protests from opponents, ultimately being abandoned in 2020 without anyone breaking ground.
