Fairleigh S. Dickinson: From Humble Beginnings to Greatness

Dickinson then moved to New York, where he founded a surgical firm with Maxwell Becton in 1897. They later relocated to Rutherford, New Jersey, where their company became one of the largest surgical instrument manufacturing concerns in the U.S.

Dickinson was inducted into the United States Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel during World War I. He worked with the Army Medical Corps on supplying surgical instruments.
