History of Polmo

The history of Polmo is a fascinating story that began in the 1970s. In 1929, the origins of the plant date back to, and by 1953, it was established as Wielkopolskie Zakłady Naprawy Samochodów.

The first series of 25 vehicles, the FSR Tarpan, left the gates of the plant in December 1972. In April 1973, WZNS was incorporated into the Fabryka Samochodów Ciężarowych in Lublin as the Agricultural Car Plant.

250 cars were made in 1973, and a year later, production increased to 1,582. The car was modernized by the plant's design office in 1975.

On July 1, 1975, the Zakład Samochodów Rolniczych became independent and transformed into the Fabryka Samochodów Rolniczych "Polmo". The decision was made to expand the factory and include several plants that had been FSR's main collaborators.

Production of the FSR Tarpan models gradually decreased, from around 600 units in the early 1990s to around 300 units in the mid-1990s. In 1996, production of the FSR Tarpan models ceased.

The rights to produce the Tarpan Honker models were taken over by Daewoo Motor Polska Sp. z o.o. in 1996, which began trial assembly in Lublin in the autumn of 1997.

The Tarpan 239D was a popular choice among farmers due to its economy and strong construction. It had a top speed of 86 km/h and used only 6.9 liters of fuel to travel 100 km. The engine produced 42 horsepower at 2500 rpm and 150.6 Nm of torque at 1200-1300 rpm.

A key advantage of the Tarpan 239D was its fuel efficiency, which was made possible by the use of diesel fuel. In contrast to gasoline, diesel fuel was more readily available to farmers during the economic crisis of the 1980s in Poland.
