Eight Sleep is revolutionizing the way we sleep with their cutting-edge technology. Their flagship product, the Pod, uses AI to monitor and optimize sleep quality.

The Pod's AI technology tracks various parameters, including sleep stages, heart rate, and breathing patterns. This data is then used to create a personalized sleep plan to improve the quality of sleep.

Eight Sleep's innovative approach to temperature control is also worth noting. The Pod's temperature-regulating system can heat or cool the bed to create an ideal sleeping environment.

Temperature Control

Temperature Control is a key feature of Eight Sleep, allowing you to set the temperature anywhere between 55 degrees and 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

You can choose between seeing "real temperatures" in Fahrenheit or Celsius, or use a simpler one-to-ten scale in both directions.

The real-temp scale lets you increase or decrease the temperature one degree at a time, making it easy to fine-tune the temperature to your liking.

With the numerical scale, each of the 20 settings represents a temperature range, such as -2 to -1 translating to 76 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit.

You can set the temperature most easily through the app, but there's also a spot on each side of the bed where you can tap the cover to change the temperature.

The tapping method can be a bit finicky, but it's a nice feature that will keep you from having to use your phone, if you can get it to work.

The Pod 4

The Pod 4 is a significant investment, with a price tag of $2,500.

The temperature controls on the Pod 4 are great, and the vibrational alarm is really cool.

But let's talk about the Autopilot membership, which costs $17 per month, or $204 per year.

If you decide to cancel your subscription after the first year, you'll only be able to use the temperature controls, and you'll lose access to scheduling specific temperature changes, vibrational alarms, and automatic adjustments.

Eight Sleep gave the author a free trial of Autopilot, and while they liked using many of the features, they probably won't pay for the membership once the trial expires.

Ultimately, the Pod 4's temperature-controlling features can be found elsewhere for cheaper.

Eight Sleep's flagship product is the Pod mattress, which has been integrated with Amazon's Echo devices.

The company has released several generations of the Pod, with the fourth generation, Pod 4, launching in 2024.

The Pod mattress is unique in its ability to provide perceptible temperature control, a feature that was described as the only one of its type in 2021 by The Strategist.

However, more recent reviews suggest that similar temperature-controlling features can be found elsewhere for a lower cost.

Raises $100M to Expand AI Sleep Tech

Eight Sleep has raised a significant $100 million to expand its AI-powered sleep tech. This funding comes from investors like HSG, Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, and Y Combinator, as well as athletes Charles Leclerc and Zak Brown.

The company's flagship product, Pod, has generated over $500 million in sales since its launch in 2019. This is a tenfold increase in revenue, demonstrating the product's success.

Eight Sleep's AI-powered sleep tech has analyzed over one billion hours of recorded sleep data. This wealth of data has helped the company develop insights into sleep patterns and optimize its products accordingly.

The company is now expanding beyond the Pod with its Sleep Agent, an AI-driven system that creates digital twins for each user. This system aims to predict outcomes and optimize nightly recovery.

Eight Sleep has a valuation of around $500 million post-money, which has doubled since its last round of funding. The company is now valued at roughly $1 billion.

The new funds will be used to develop the Sleep Agent and enter the medical space. Eight Sleep aims to develop AI solutions for sleep-related issues like menopause and sleep apnea, and is seeking FDA approval for specific uses.
