
The CA DMV accepts various payment methods, but not all of them are created equal. The CA DMV accepts credit cards, but there are some restrictions.
You can use your credit card to pay for services like vehicle registration renewal, driver's license renewal, and other transactions. However, be aware that a service fee will be added to your credit card bill.
Cash, check, or debit card payments can also be made in person at a CA DMV office.

Does CA DMV Accept Credit Cards?
The California DMV now charges a service fee to all customers paying with a debit or credit card. This fee is 2.1 percent for online, kiosk, and automated telephone service payments, and 2.3 percent for payments made at a field office.
Currently, only the Davis field office accepts credit card payments, but a pilot program is underway to expand this to other offices, including Roseville, Fresno, and Victorville, in the coming weeks.
All remaining field offices will accept credit card payments in early 2020, so you won't have to worry about finding a cash-only office.
