The Cribl CrowdStrike partnership is designed to help organizations better manage and analyze their security data. This partnership combines the strengths of both companies to provide a more comprehensive view of security data.

Cribl's data management platform is integrated with CrowdStrike's Falcon platform to enable real-time data ingestion and analysis. This integration allows security teams to quickly identify and respond to potential threats.

By leveraging the Cribl CrowdStrike partnership, organizations can improve their incident response times and reduce the risk of data breaches. This is achieved by providing a more accurate and complete view of security data.

Setting Up Cribl with CrowdStrike

Setting up Cribl with CrowdStrike is a straightforward process that involves several steps. First, you need to set up a data connector in CrowdStrike, which can be done by navigating to the main menu, selecting Next-Gen SIEM, then Data onboarding.

On the Data Source page, search for the "Cribl Data Connector" and click the tile to start the connector setup. In the Add new connector page, select a Vendor, select a Product, enter a Connector name, and enter a Description (optional).

To continue the setup, choose from existing parsers or Create a new parser in the Parser details section. Acknowledge the Terms and Conditions and select Save. The connector will begin initializing.

Once the connector is ready, click the Generate API key option in the banner. Copy the API key and API URL, as these will be referenced later.

Next, login to Cribl, navigate to Stream, and a worker group. Select Data > Destinations. Search or scroll to the CrowdStrike Falcon Next-Gen SIEM tile, click the tile, and select Add Destination.

Enter an Output ID and the Next-Gen SIEM endpoint, which is the same API URL used during the CrowdStrike connector setup. Request format should be set to JSON. Select the Authentication method you prefer.

To complete the setup, enter the API Key from the CrowdStrike connector setup in the Next-Gen SIEM auth token field for Manual.

Capturing and Managing Data

To capture data from CrowdStrike FDR, you need to contact your CrowdStrike team to obtain access to Falcon Data Replicator. This will provide you with an SQS queue URL and S3 bucket URL, along with an access and secret key.

You can then configure a CrowdStrike source in Cribl with this information, making sure to select 'Commit' and 'Deploy' for the changes to take effect. Do not configure an S3 Collector, instead choose either a CrowdStrike source or an 'Amazon S3 pull source' in Cribl.

Cribl Stream supports receiving data from the CrowdStrike Falcon Data Replicator platform, which can then be sent to SIEM, threat-hunting, and other security tools and platforms.

Capturing FDR Data

Capturing FDR data requires access to Falcon Data Replicator logs, which can be obtained by contacting the CrowdStrike team.

To get started, you'll need to set up an SQS queue URL and S3 bucket URL, along with an access and secret key. This information will be provided by your CrowdStrike team.

You'll then need to configure a CrowdStrike source within Cribl, using the provided SQS queue URL and S3 bucket URL.

Make sure to select 'Commit' and 'Deploy' for the changes to take effect, as this will enable the data collection process.

Alternatively, you can configure an Amazon S3 pull source in Cribl, but be sure to avoid configuring an S3 Collector.

The CrowdStrike Pack is designed to work with Falcon Data Replicator logs written to the CrowdStrike provided S3 bucket.

By following these steps, you'll be able to capture FDR data and send it to SIEM, threat-hunting, and other security tools and platforms using Cribl Stream.

Cribl Stream supports receiving data from the CrowdStrike Falcon Data Replicator (FDR) platform, which pulls data from Amazon S3 buckets maintained by CrowdStrike.

Dropping Unwanted Events

Dropping Unwanted Events is a crucial step in managing data effectively. You can control which CrowdStrike events are kept and which are dropped using a lookup containing event_simpleNames values to drop.

The pack ships with a lookup to simplify this process, but you can directly edit it within the Cribl UI and add or drop rows. This lookup is part of the Knowledge section within the pack.

To control the list of events being dropped, access the Knowledge section and navigate to lookups. You can directly edit the lookup and add or drop rows.

CrowdStrike exposes inventory information in separate events that are typically published nightly. This information is sent in a way that requires Redis for Cribl to enrich the computer name and/or other asset information in each streaming event.

To enable this functionality, you need to stand up a Redis server.

The Partnership

The Cribl-CrowdStrike partnership is a game-changer for security teams struggling with legacy SIEMs.

Digital transformation has created a complex maze of telemetry data that legacy SIEMs are struggling to keep up with.

CrowdStream integrates seamlessly with Falcon Next-Gen SIEM, allowing security teams to connect and route data from any source to the CrowdStrike Falcon platform.

Legacy SIEMs are struggling to keep up with modern demands, leading to bottlenecks, rising costs, and critical gaps in real-time threat detection and response.

The shift to cloud-native, AI-powered SIEM is critical for security teams looking for unified data visibility and fast, actionable insights.

Native capability within the Falcon platform minimizes the complexity and cost of connecting data sources, enabling SOCs to better safeguard the business.
