You can control who sees your Venmo history, but it's not entirely private. Venmo allows you to set your account to public, private, or friends-only, but this only affects who can see your transactions.
With a public account, anyone can view your Venmo history, including your name and any comments on transactions. This can be a concern for those who prefer to keep their financial dealings private.
If you're concerned about your Venmo history being public, you can change your account settings to private, which means only people you've accepted as friends can view your transactions.

Delete Transactions
You can't delete transactions from Venmo, but you can make them private.
Unfortunately, even deleting your Venmo account won't hide who you've paid or received money from.
It's also worth noting that blocking a user won't delete the corresponding transaction, based on tests in June 2022.
However, if you'd like to try blocking the user, you can follow these steps: open Venmo, visit the user's profile, and tap on the three dots in the upper right corner.
Your transaction history will remain on the other person's device, even if you block them or close your Venmo account.
This means you can't completely delete your transaction history from Venmo, but there's no need to worry about it being visible to others.

To make your entire transaction history private, follow these steps: Tap your profile photo in the Venmo app, then tap the gear icon, followed by Privacy, then Past Transactions, and finally Change All to Private.
If you only need to hide one or two transactions, you can do so from your transaction history by tapping on the transaction and changing its privacy level to Private.
Here's a quick summary of how to make your past transactions private:
- Tap your profile photo in the Venmo app
- Tap the gear icon
- Tap Privacy
- Tap Past Transactions
- Tap Change All to Private
Alternatively, if you only want to hide one transaction, you can tap on the transaction, then tap the current privacy level, and finally tap Private.
It's worth noting that even if you block a user, it won't delete the corresponding transaction.

Making Transactions Private
You can't delete past transactions, but you can make them private. This means that only you and the recipient or sender will be able to see who you've paid or received money from.
To make your entire transaction history private, tap your profile photo in the Venmo app, then tap the gear icon and select Privacy. From there, tap Past Transactions and select Change All to Private.
Alternatively, you can make future transactions private by default. To do this, tap your profile photo, then tap the gear icon and select Privacy. Tap Private, and then select Change Anyway.
If you want to make a single transaction private, you can do so by tapping on the transaction, then tapping on the blue hyperlink to the right of Transaction Details. From there, tap on Private.
It's worth noting that blocking a user won't delete the corresponding transaction, so if you want to hide a transaction, you'll need to make it private manually.

Here are the different privacy options available for your payments:
- Public: Anyone on the internet may be able to see the transaction
- Friends only: The transaction will only be shared with your Venmo friends and with the other participant’s Venmo friends
- Private: We will not share the transaction anywhere other than in your personal transactions feed under the Me tab and with the other participant
If you select Private for your payments, your Venmo activity will remain private - only visible to you and any other payment participants.
Payment Visibility and Sharing
If your payment is set to Public or Friends, the payment note, names of sender/recipient, and timestamp of the payment will be shared.
You can change the privacy setting on any purchase to share them. Purchases made using your Venmo Mastercard Debit Card, Venmo Credit Card, and purchases from approved merchants are Private by default.
If you select Private for your payments, your Venmo activity will remain private - only visible to you and any other payment participants.
Venmo will always use the more restrictive setting selected between payment partners.

To do this, tap your profile photo, then tap the gear icon, followed by Privacy, and select Private. This will make all future transactions private.
There are three privacy options available for your payments: Public, Friends only, and Private. Public makes your transaction visible to anyone on the internet, while Friends only shares it with your Venmo friends and their friends. Private keeps the transaction private, visible only to you and the other participant.
If your payment partner has a different privacy setting, Venmo will use the more restrictive setting. For example, if you send a payment marked Public, but the recipient has their default audience set to Private, the payment will still be private.
You can adjust the privacy settings for past transactions by going back to the Privacy section and selecting Past Transactions. From there, you can adjust the visibility for previous payments as needed.
Here are the steps to make your Venmo private:
- Tap your profile photo, then the gear icon, followed by Privacy, and select Private.
- Return to the Privacy menu and tap the third option, Private, under Default Privacy Setting.
Remember, any changes you make will only apply to future payments, so you can update past transactions separately.
Who Can See Your Transactions
By default, everyone can see your Venmo transactions, including the amount, and even the description of the payment. This is because Venmo was originally designed with a social aspect in mind.
Your friends list is also public by default, making it easy for others to find your family members, coworkers, and other personal connections.
Venmo collects a great amount of information about its users and their transactions, which can be found in their privacy policy under "The Information we Collect" section. This information can be shared with third parties, but most of it is used to improve transaction security and prevent fraud.
You can make your transactions private by going to the Privacy section and selecting Past Transactions, but be aware that this won't hide who you've paid or received money from.
Here are the people who can see your Venmo transactions by default:
- Everyone
- Your friends
- Third parties (with some exceptions)
A few years ago, BuzzFeed was able to find former President Joe Biden's Venmo account, exposing an entire web of contacts, including family members and senior White House officials. This kind of exposure can be exploited by foreign intelligence services, posing a potential national security risk.
