Russian Refinery Selects GE Technology
Bashneft, a Russian oil company, chose General Electric's (GE) technology for its new wastewater treatment plant due to strict discharge regulations and the need to reuse treated water.
The company operates one of the largest oil refineries in Russia and needed a reliable solution to meet environmental legislation requirements.
GE's ZeeWeed membrane bioreactor (MBR), electrodialysis reversal (EDR), and reverse osmosis (RO) technologies were selected for the project.
A successful pilot study was conducted by GE in cooperation with Bashneft and the State Unitary Enterprise's Institute of Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry of the Republic of Bashkortostan during April-July 2013.

The pilot demonstrated the technological feasibility of refinery wastewater purification in compliance with Russian environmental legislation.
Bashneft awarded GE the basic engineering contract for all of the main technological equipment and processes.
The biological treatment plants (BTPs) of the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim branch were commissioned in 1958 and have undergone reconstruction in 1983.
Bashneft's president and chairman of the management board, Alexander Korsik, emphasized the company's focus on protecting the environment from harmful industrial impacts.
By implementing GE's advanced technologies, Bashneft aims to make the water of the Belaya River cleaner, benefiting the people of Bashkortostan.
