Archaia Entertainment started in 2006 as a small publishing company founded by Mark Smylie, Joe LeFleur, and Rich Friend. They were all passionate about creating unique and imaginative comics.

Their first big hit was the critically acclaimed series "The Killer and the Cop", which was released in 2008. This series showcased their ability to craft compelling stories.

Archaia Entertainment's early success was largely due to their focus on creator-owned titles and innovative storytelling. They took risks on unique and often unconventional projects.

In 2013, Archaia Entertainment was acquired by Boom! Studios, a leading comic book publisher.

History of Archaia Entertainment

Archaia Entertainment was founded by Mark Smylie as a home for his comic book series Artesia. He took back the series from the original publisher, Sirius Entertainment, to finance the full color publication of the third series, Artesia Afire.

Mark Smylie made the bold decision to open his own publishing outfit in 2006, after Sirius wanted to print the third series in black and white. This move allowed him to maintain creative control and publish the series in full color.

The company expanded its publishing to encompass projects from third parties, not created by Mark Smylie, also in 2006. This marked a significant shift in the company's focus and direction.

In May 2008, Smylie announced a restructuring of the company to address late-shipping books following the departure of co-publisher Aki Liao. This move aimed to improve the company's workflow and solicitation process.

Archaia was bought by Kunoichi in October 2008, and Smylie was installed as Publisher. Kunoichi principal P.J. Bickett took over as CEO, and Stephen Christy was brought aboard as Director of Development.

The company relaunched in June 2009 as simply Archaia, with Smylie as Publisher and Christy as Director of Development. This marked a new era for the company, with a focus on growth and expansion.

In 2013, Archaia was acquired by Boom! Studios and converted into an imprint at the publisher. This move brought new opportunities and resources to the company, allowing it to expand its reach and scope.
