Amedia's AI-Powered Future of Predictable Growth is an exciting development in the industry. Amedia's AI technology is designed to provide predictable growth, which is a significant departure from the traditional growth models that are often unpredictable.

Amedia's AI technology uses machine learning algorithms to analyze data and make predictions about future growth. This approach allows Amedia to identify potential areas of growth and make informed decisions about resource allocation.

The result is a more stable and predictable growth trajectory, which is a major advantage for businesses. By leveraging AI technology, Amedia is able to minimize the risks associated with traditional growth models and maximize its potential for success.

Our Digital Presence

Amedia is recognized as one of Europe's most innovative media groups, leading the way in digital journalism. They've successfully created a greater demand - and willingness to pay - for digital journalism in each market their newspapers operate.

Their digital transformation is powered by a robust data strategy, which is central to their success. Over 90 percent of their subscribers read digitally, and more than 70 percent are fully digital subscribers.

Our Structure and Team

At Amedia, our structure and team are designed to support our ambitious goals. We have two initiative leads driving the project from the central organisation.

These leads work closely with eight editorial participants who serve as ambassadors in various local newsrooms. We encourage all 1000 journalists to use the tool, but they can do so on a voluntary basis.

We believe that journalists can't realistically avoid using AI tools today, and we'd rather inspire them to use the tool than force them to. Our team's collaborative approach has been instrumental in shaping our project's success.

Here's a snapshot of our team's key figures:

  • Newspaper Titles: 107
  • Partner Newspapers: 20
  • Number of Employees: approx. 2,400

Our Growth and Partnerships

Amedia has achieved impressive growth, with 4,000 videos created per quarter on average, a milestone they reached within one year of onboarding WeVideo.

Their goal is to continue making video production accessible to all journalists, regardless of technical background or budget. This is achieved through enhancements to mobile and audio editing capabilities, as well as integrating AI tools to simplify the workflow.

Amedia's business model is predictable in terms of cost, allowing them to focus on expanding their video production capabilities.

Their partner titles include a diverse range of publications, such as Bladet Vesterålen, Drangedalsposten, and Eidsvoll Ullensaker Blad, among 22 other local and regional newspapers.

Amedia has seen tremendous success with WeVideo, with an average of 4,000 videos created per quarter. This milestone was reached within just one year of onboarding.

Their goal is to make video production even more accessible to all journalists, regardless of their technical background or budget. This is reflected in their focus on enhancing mobile and audio editing capabilities.

WeVideo's business model is very predictable in terms of cost, according to Tord. This predictability is a key factor in their ability to plan for growth.

Our AI Sandbox and Operations

We built our own AI sandbox to have flexibility in terms of third-party providers, which allowed us to have control over costs and direction.

Amedia's experience shows that creating a basic sandbox is not a huge technical project. It took just 1-2 people about a month to set up a safe generative AI environment.

Having control over the sandbox also gave us a chance to spread expertise throughout the organization, ensuring that our journalists and developers are equipped to handle the technology.

According to Markus Rask Jensen, setting up a safe generative AI environment can be done by hiring developers to spend 10–15 hours on the project.

Here are some key benefits of building our own AI sandbox:

  • Flexibility in terms of third-party providers
  • Cost efficiency and control
  • A chance for journalists to guide the direction of product development
  • Spreading expertise throughout the organization

News and Technical Issues

Amedia's website had technical issues on Tuesday evening around half past eleven, causing several of their online newspapers to malfunction.

The problem is due to an instability in the technical solution, which forced the newspapers to switch to a backup plan.

Amedia has over 100 newspapers in Norway, and as of now, none of the titles checked by Dagbladet are functioning normally.

Meeting Newsroom Needs

Meeting newsroom needs is crucial for any news organization. Amedia, a Norwegian media company, had to find a solution that catered to the different needs of its newsrooms, ranging from 50 journalists to just two.

The solution needed to be easy to use and not require special hardware. WeVideo, a video editing platform, was introduced in 2021 and has dramatically enhanced video production and publishing capabilities.

Video content volume at Amedia is now four times the size it was in year one of operations. This is a significant increase, and it's all thanks to WeVideo's collaborative features.

Journalists with minimal video editing experience can now create engaging content efficiently. WeVideo's integration with Amedia's video player, Flowplayer, facilitates one-click publishing from any device.

This seamless integration has made it possible for hundreds of reporters to edit video who previously were unable to. The result is a significant increase in video consumption, with Amedia breaking its own record for the number of subscribers watching video.

News Websites Experience Technical Issues

Several news websites in Norway experienced technical issues on Tuesday evening, around half past twelve.

Amedia, a company with over 100 online newspapers in Norway, was affected by the issues.

The technical problems caused several of Amedia's online newspapers to stop functioning.

Amedia's communication manager, Hallgeir Westrum, stated that the issue is due to an instability in their technical solution.

He couldn't say how long it would take to resolve the issue but assured that the IT department is working hard to fix it.

Westrum also mentioned that they were using a backup solution to try and get the newspapers up and running again.

So far, none of the online newspapers checked by Dagbladet were functioning normally.
