AbbVie Scholarships for Students and Researchers are a great way to support your education and career goals. These scholarships are designed to help students and researchers in the life sciences and related fields.

AbbVie offers scholarships to students pursuing a degree in a field related to AbbVie's business, such as pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering, or biotechnology. The company also provides research grants to support students and researchers in their studies and projects.

If you're interested in applying for an AbbVie scholarship, you'll need to meet the eligibility criteria, which includes being a student or researcher in a life sciences-related field and having a strong academic record.

Eligibility and Application

To be eligible for an AbbVie scholarship, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Applicants must also be current undergraduate sophomores residing in and/or attending an accredited 2-year community college in one of the following counties in Massachusetts:

To be eligible, you must be pursuing a degree in STEM, plan to transfer to an accredited 4-year college or university in the U.S. for the entire upcoming academic year, and be a first-generation college student.

Applicants can apply online until April 4, and winners will be notified by April 29, 2016.

The scholarship is open to students with rheumatologic diseases, including RA, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, or juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

To be considered, students must demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, and a willingness to serve as positive role models for the rheumatologic community.

Applicants do not need to have any connection with AbbVie or be using any of its products or medicines to be considered.

Selection Process

The selection process for AbbVie scholarships is rigorous and fair. Scholarship recipients are selected based on community involvement, academic performance, and demonstrated leadership and participation in school, community activities, and/or work experience.

Applicants are also evaluated on their ability to serve as a positive role model in the immunology community. A letter of recommendation is required, and applicants should not include any specific brand or product names in their submission.

To help the judges get to know them better, applicants are asked to answer one of three essay topics. These topics focus on living with a chronic inflammatory disease, community support, and the impact of education.

Here are the three essay topics:

  • Living with a chronic inflammatory disease can be a transformative journey, providing you with unique perspective on life. What are some of the challenges you face daily, and how does your perspective help you manage them? What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned throughout your disease journey?
  • Navigating life with a chronic inflammatory disease can be challenging, and community support can be helpful. What does your support system look like in your own community? What role have you taken in your own community and why is that important to you personally?
  • Education can be a powerful tool that you can use to change the world. What do you plan to do with your education? What aspects of your future excite you the most?

It's worth noting that these essay topics are optional, and applicants will not be penalized if they choose not to answer them.
