9 – Person Tackle Football
Age: 3rd
& 4th Grades
Weight: 90 lbs. with pants is the cutoff for
ball carriers. Players 91 lbs. and up will have a Red X on
their helmets.
Equipment: Each player must
have the following designated equipment:
1.
Helmet with facemask and chin strap.
2.
Shoulder pads
3.
Mouth guard, attachable to facemask.
4.
Athletic supporter and cup (not required for female
players)
5.
Football pants with pads.
6.
Shoes: either tennis shoes or rubber cleats (short
cleats)
Player Selection: Players will be selected through
a player draft. Any player joining subsequent to the draft will
be assigned to a team by the director of Wee Pee football.
General #1: No minimum play
rule. Coaches MUST play their players equally with the
exception of disciplinary problems and injuries. Each team will
have two (2) sets of offense and two (2) sets of defense. Each
player will be assigned a position on offense and defense. No
player should play the same position on both offense or defense
sets. Coaches will rotate the sets equally during the game.
Each team will have a minimum of 2 quarterbacks and 6 running
backs. The exception will be if a player is sick/absent or hurt
during a game.
Game Rules
1.
Each game shall consist of four quarters. Quarters shall
be 12 plays without regard to actual time involved, however,
there is a 1 hour 15 minute last drive rule and cannot go over 1
hour 30 minutes mark. (4th quarter unlimited plays.
Play until your time is up. 1st game the last play
is at 10:25am)
2.
Kickoff, extra point, and penalties do not count as plays
(penalty counts if penalty is refused). If a play involves
penalties on both sides, it will not count as a play.
3.
One coach from each team will officiate games. No
official may communicate their team during a play.
4.
A 35 second “ball in play” rule will apply. A 5 yard
penalty will apply after the 1st two games.
5.
Teams play on an 80 yard field.
6.
Fumbles are considered dead balls and the play stands at
that point.
7.
One coach may be on the field in the huddle. No shouting
of alignments or duties may occur after the huddle has been
broken.
8.
Two time-outs per half.
9.
Games ending in a tie is a tie. No overtime!
10.
No helmet spearing (defense) or lowering/leading with the
helmet (offense). Penalty: 10 yards
11.
In case of inclement weather, please show up at the
field, where it will be determined whether or not the game will
be played. Make-up games will be scheduled through the director.
12.
When a safety occurs during a regular play, the result
will be loss of possession. No points will be awarded. The
next play will be a regular kick-off.
13.
No protests will be allowed. All official’s calls are
final.
14.
Fighting, Trash-Talking, or Taunting: Any
player/coach/parent involved in these activities will be
immediately ejected from the game and will be ineligible for the
next game.
15.
All spectators (parents, siblings, friends, relatives,
etc...) will be seated on the opposite side of the playing field
from the players.
16.
Spectators’ poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. An
official warning will be given to the spectator and coaches. If
the problem continues, the person or persons.

1.

Wing man can split up to 10 yards from the last player on
the line of scrimmage, but must be 1 ½ yards off the line of
scrimmage.

Tackles are eligible to receive passes, unless they are a
Red X.

Centers and guards are ineligible to advance the ball.
6.
No Red X in the backfield.

1.
All players on the line of scrimmage must line up at
least 1 yard off the ball.
2.
All defensive linemen must line-up off an offensive
player in a 3 or 4 point stance. NO LINING UP IN GAPS!
3.
Defensive ends cannot split out wider than the outside
shoulder of the offensive tackle and can be in an upright
position.
4.
Linebackers will play at least 1 ½ yards off the heels of
the defensive linemen (approximately 3 yards off the ball)
5.
No blitzing by linebackers or defensive backs at any
time. The only players that can cross the line of scrimmage are
the linemen. Each occurrence will be assessed a 5 yard penalty.
6.
Defensive backs can move up on ball carriers when the
ball goes past the outside of the offensive tackle/end.
7.
Red X players may be defensive backs.
8.
An interception is a live play. The exception is if a
RED X player intercepts the ball – the ball is dead
immediately. A change of possession will occur. A RED X player
may not advance the ball at any time.
Kickoffs
1.
Kickoffs will be made from the 40 yard line with the
receiving team off the line at least 10 yards.
2.
No onside kicks are allowed.
3.
No safeties will be allowed. If the return team is
tackled or downed in the end zone, the ball will be placed on
the 10 yard line.
4.
Kickoff/return players that are within 2 yards of the
ball, and no control has been made, play is dead and that is the
new line of scrimmage.
5.
NO FUMBLES!
Punts
1.
Teams must declare if they are going to punt or not on 4th
down.
2.
No rush is allowed on punts. Both teams – no movement
until the kick.
3.
The defensive team may have up to three (3) players back
to receive the punt. All other players must be within 5 yards
of the line of scrimmage.
4.
No safeties will be allowed. If the punt return team is
tackled in the end zone, the ball will be placed on the ten (10)
yard line.
Penalties
Unless otherwise noted, all penalties will
be assessed 5 yards (i.e.: holding, clipping, offside, facemask,
pass interference, etc...)
