Greetings and Happy New Year!
Thank
you for your interest in youth football and the Cottage
Grove Athletic Association (CGAA). My name is Brent
Cuttell and I am the CGAA Football Board President.
Football is an exciting, rewarding and challenging sport
and I encourage and thank you for your support.
The
Cottage Grove Athletic Association (CGAA) football
program is for all individuals in Grades 1-6. The
primary goal of our program is to teach the game of
football in a way that emphasizes the fundamentals,
creates a competitive atmosphere and allows the players
to have fun learning the game. CGAA football is a
nonprofit volunteer organization serving over 350 youth
football players.
The
program consists of three different levels of play. The
Mites is an introductory program for 1st and 2nd grade
players with little player to player contact. No pads
are worn at this level. Instruction is given in a
clinic type format with Park Wolfpack varsity football
players conducting most of the drills. The clinic is
run on four consecutive Saturdays in September at Hamlet
Park. The Wee Pee program is for 3rd and 4th graders
and is 9-man full contact on an 80 yard field. At this
level, players are introduced to proper tackling and
blocking techniques. They also begin to learn the rules
of the game and compete in games played against other
CGAA teams. The Pee Wee program is for 5th and 6th
graders and is full contact 11-man football played on a
regulation size football field. At this level, the
players learn to sharpen their football skills as they
get ready to make the next step to junior high
football. Pee Wee games are played against St Paul
Park, Hastings and Prescott, WI.
The
CGAA football season begins in late July with the Park
Wolfpack football camp. The Wee Pee and Pee Wee
divisions hold their drafts in early August and practice
begins in mid-August. A 12 game schedule is played over
a six week period beginning in early September. The
season is culminated with Fun Day in which all CGAA
teams get together for games and festivities at Park
Stadium.
Throughout our website you will find useful information
regarding our registrations, rules of play, board member
contact information etc. We also have a CGAA hotline
number you can call to leave a message for the board. I
also encourage anyone to call me directly with any
questions regarding youth football. I would be more
than happy to discuss any issue, question or concern.
I
look forward to seeing each of you on the field this
season. Thank you again for your support of the game of
football and the CGAA football program.
